Melanie is a Neo- Soul song stress whose vocals draw comparisons to soul sirens Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, and Aretha Franklin. Melanie is more than just a typical vocalist and her accomplishments are synonymous with versatility. At the early age of five she performed with her father, and captured the audience by singing [“Got to Get You Off of My Mind”]. At age 11, Melanie was signed to MGM music with her brothers and sisters in a group created by her father (The Sons and Daughters of Solomon) who was trained under the late great J. W. Alexander. After leaving her father’s home and returning back to her mother in N. C. Burke started singing in a band called “Soul Express”, who toured the south working in mostly military venues. Melanie returned to Los Angeles to further her career and started training under William “Mickey” Stevenson (former head A&R for Motown Records), who assigned her to train under female group Hodges, James, and Smith (London Records recording artists). She also studied some dance with the great Lon Fontaine.
Melanie began singing in small clubs and working as a freelance background recording artist with companies such as Casablanca, A&M and Rawkus Records and a studio artist for groups such as Billy Preston, Peacock (Anna Gayle group), Lesley Ughams, and neo Soul artist, songwriter, and producer Novel. Melanie played the role of “Effie”, in “Dream Girls” (the same role that elevated R&B artist Jennifer Hudson to stardom and Jennifer Holiday on Broadway) in an off Broadway production at the Cape Fear Regional Theater. sort of an Indie post hardcore sound all the riffs and vocals to match | ROCKLEDGE Bluegrass |
Country |
ROCKLEDGE band members are veteran bluegrass musicians, each having had the privilege of performing with talented bluegrass bands in the DC area over the years. We met at bluegrass jams and found that we all have the same sense of bluegrass rhythm, style, harmonies, and creativity. We respect and love traditional bluegrass structure and its development. We became friends, and in 2005, we started getting together for picking sessions in each others' living rooms and basements just for grins. We discovered our distinct sound and we were inspired to "take it on the road." Our first gig was to be an outdoor show at Rockledge Mansion in Occoquan, VA. Even though the gig was rained out, the band name ROCKLEDGE survived. We enjoy playing music together and people tell us it shows. We like our audiences to enjoy our music as much as we do. We're proud and honored to be a part of the rich heritage of bluegrass music in the Washington DC area.
We play for private parties and events and we are happy to custom prepare our show. We perform bluegrass gospel or traditional secular bluegrass or both, according to the event. | Sol |
Rock |
Funk, roots Reggae, deep Blues, and Rock.
Take two scoops of Funk; throw in a heathly serving of Reggae; stir in a few large cups of deep Piedmont Blues; throw in a pinch of Latin Flavor for spice, and top it off with some Old School R&B. Shake it up and you've got the music of Sol. A venerable pan stew of groove.
Sol leads a collaboration of musicians from southeast and mid-atlantic US. Sol and his band members are no strangers to the road. Sol has covered much of the surface of the earth on tour, lighting up venues across North America, Europe, Australia and the Caribbean.
Sol has shared the stage with blues heavyweights such as Taj Mahal, BB King, Cootie Starks, Cool John Ferguson, John Dee Holeman, Robert Randolph, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Derek Trucks and others.
Paying homage to the greats, Sol and his band seeks to bring Roots Music to a new generation of listeners. | The Psychodeliacs |
