Banh mi in Vietnamese literally means bread, and was introduced to Vietnamese culture as the French baguette during the French Colonial days. The sandwich combines French influences such as baguette, pâté, and mayonnaise with Vietnamese flavored fillings and ingredients like cilantro, cucumber, and pickled carrots and daikon radish.
